Overview
This Refund Policy explains when Hack Publishing Ltd (“Hack Publishing”, “we”, “us”, “our”) will provide refunds for purchases made on the Hack platform, including online courses, editing services, physical products, and membership.
Eligible Products and Services
This Policy applies to:
- Online Courses (self-paced digital courses and associated add-ons);
- Editing Services (including manuscript/content editing);
- Physical and Digital books and other items sold via the platform;
- Paid Membership Subscriptions (monthly or annual).
Refund Eligibility
Where you are entitled to a refund under applicable UK consumer law, we will refund the eligible amount. Where you are not entitled to a full refund, we may offer an alternative outcome (such as a credit note), and any partial refund (if applicable) will be assessed by reference to the extent of use/benefit received and the stage reached at the time you request cancellation.
Courses
Cooling-off and when refunds may be reduced
You may request a refund within 14 days of purchase (“the cooling-off period”). Whether a full refund is available after you access the course depends on how/when the course content was provided and any consent given at checkout.
“Course accessed” means: you have logged in and either (a) streamed/watched/started course modules; and/or (b) downloaded course materials; and/or (c) otherwise used the course content in a way that indicates the service has begun.
Within 14 days and not accessed
If you request a refund within 14 days of purchase and the course has not been accessed as defined above, you may be eligible for a full refund.
Within 14 days and accessed/service begun
If you request a refund after the course has been accessed and the service has begun, you may not be entitled to a full refund. Any refund will be considered in line with applicable UK consumer rights and will reflect what has been provided.
Purchases outside 14 days
If you request a refund outside the 14-day cooling-off period, we may offer a credit note towards another Hack Publishing course where appropriate. Eligibility is not guaranteed, but where offered it will be for the amount we decide based on the stage of use and the extent of content already provided.
Partial Refunds
Where a partial refund is available under applicable law, it will be calculated by reference to the extent of the course accessed and/or work completed at the time of the request. The final amount (if any) will be determined by Hack Publishing at the time of assessment, in accordance with applicable law.
Editing
Editing services are bespoke services agreed at purchase (for example, manuscript/content editing, including any rounds and deliverables described in the service details).
Before any work begins
If you request cancellation/refund before any editing work starts and before any deliverables are provided, you may be eligible for a full refund (subject to applicable law).
After work begins/after delivery
If you request cancellation after editing work has started and/or after drafts/edited materials (or other deliverables) have been provided, you may not be eligible for a full refund. Any refund (if applicable) will reflect the portion of the agreed work already completed and delivered, assessed in line with applicable consumer rights.
Physical Products
Damaged or Faulty Items
If an item is faulty or damaged, you have the right to reject it and request a refund under applicable UK law. You must notify us within 30 days of receiving the item.
Where a return is required, we will provide instructions. Return costs will be handled in accordance with applicable law, including where the item is faulty/damaged.
Delayed Delivery
If delivery is delayed beyond the delivery date/timeframe shown at checkout (and any permitted extension where applicable), you may cancel the order and receive a full refund.
Membership
Membership is typically subscription-based.
Cancellations and Refunds
Membership plans renew automatically unless cancelled in accordance with the membership terms.
If membership access has already started, refunds for unused time are generally not provided unless required by applicable UK law.
Ongoing Access
Where you have begun using membership benefits or resources, membership fees are generally treated as non-refundable for the period already provided.
Bespoke Services
Refund terms for bespoke services will be set out in the applicable separate agreement provided before purchase.
