A horror novel with no single author

We are on the prowl for unpublished horror writers who want to create a novel together.

This is NOT a collection of short stories. This is a living, serialised horror novel, written one chapter at a time by writers in succession.

Here’s how it will work:

• One writer writes a chapter
• The chapter is published online
• The writer passes the story onto the next participant
• That writer writes the next chapter, responding to what came before
• Readers can follow along and influence the story through comments and suggestions
• The process continues until the novel is complete
• Once the final chapter is written, we’ll published the finished book in print

The project takes inspiration from the classic novels that first appeared in serial form, released chapter by chapter in magazines. But this time, there won’t be one writer calling all the shots.

We shall see what happens when a story keeps changing hands. The result might be strange, it might be unruly. It will take turns nobody saw coming.

That’s the point.

We’re currently gathering interest form unpublished horror writers across the UK, with planning for the project to begin in early 2027.

A writing event like no other!

Two days. Online. For unpublished and emerging writers.

Most writing events are built around people who have already arrived: published authors, finished books, tidy success stories.

We’re more interest in what happens before that.

Hack’s first virtual summit is for writers with a manuscript in progress, a half-formed idea, a stubborn first draft, or a book that refused to behave. Over two chaotic, generous days, we’ll make space to about the work as it really is: uncertain, exhilarating, difficult, funny, and often held together by a frayed thread.

Bring what you’re writing. Bring the problems you keep circling. Bring the hazy concept, the nearly-finished manuscript, or the one paragraph you can’t stop fretting over.

We’ll share a few things we’ve been keeping up our sleeve, while you share what you’re working on, swap stories from the messy middle, and celebrate everything that happens between first idea and bookshop shelf. Writers who have had a little published are more than welcome to come along too.

No polished success story require. Just a willingness to show up and see what might happen when unpublished writers gather in one space.
